Participant Profile: Employees interested in learning how lean can have a positive impact on quality improvement and waste reduction.

Course Size: 12-20 participants

Course Description: A lean system emphasizes prevention of waste, which is anything that does not add value to a product or service.  Lean principles were developed from the Toyota Production System and focus on what brings value to the customer. This course will introduce the fundamentals of lean techniques and how they can decrease cycle times, reduce costs, improve productivity, and eliminate waste.  Course topics include 6S, visual controls, value stream mapping, total productive manufacturing, inventory systems, resourse leveling, standardized work, and SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die).

Learning Objectives:  Upon satisfactory completion, participants will:

    • Create visual value-stream maps in a collaborative team environment.
    • Understand which process steps are value-added steps, based on the customer’s perspective.
    • Identify ways to improve quality and eliminate waste throughout the value stream.
